Pentagram Altar Cloth
A Wiccan altar cloth is something that many Wiccan and witch practitioners use when setting up their altars. An altar cloth is predominantly there to protect the altar itself from any damage that might occur through the objects placed on it. Its secondary function is to increase the power or intention of any magical workings. Depending on what kind of altar cloth the practitioner chooses, certain ideas or powers might be boosted or called upon with the altar cloth.
The upright pentacle is an ancient symbol and has been used in a range of religions throughout time. When enclosed in a circle the five point star becomes a pentagram. One of the points always faces up and this point represents spirit or divinity the other four points represent the four elements earth, fire, air and water. The pentagram is a protective symbol used to banish and ward off evil and a sign frequently used in seals, sigils, talismans and summoning circles.
The pentagram is also an emblem of Man, with the five points representing the five senses and five points on the human body (head, arm, and legs). When enclosed in a circle, it is called a pentacle and symbolizes completeness, balance, and perfection.
